TRE: A New Way of Looking at Reducing Your Stress

I had the opportunity to participate in very interesting training at our facility that would help in reducing stress and tension through a series of exercises. Even though this was just an introduction to TRE, it was a very rewarding experience and I learned a lot about how stress, tension and trauma can affect you emotionally and physically. You might be saying; I know that exercising helps in reducing stress because I exercise for that very reason. Well, this is a new way of exercising that will shake you and reach deep down into your muscles to release stress and tension. You might be wondering what I’m talking about and what is this TRE stuff?

TRE® (Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercise) is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, Ph.D., TRE® safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

TRE® is based on the fundamental idea, backed by recent research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical. TRE®’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing. After doing TRE®, many people report feelings of peace and well-being. (http://traumaprevention.com/what-is-tre/)

I can honestly say that whatever I experienced in Trautman Conference Room was not something I ever experienced before while working out. My legs were shaking and eventually my legs were vibrating. It felt weird but also good all at the same time. My legs were shaking and vibrating, it slowed down and then picked up and then slowed down again and eventually went into my thighs and then into my abdomen. I was wondering what was going on with me; I must be really stressed out. Why is my body reacting this way? Well, it was all good and I felted relieved in some way because this was the natural reflex mechanism working through my body to rebalance my state of well-being.

So in conclusion, if you find yourself wondering if this will work for you and maybe you are getting over-worked and extremely stressed out because of the high depends of work, family, and those holidays that are soon approaching. You might what to find out for yourself if TRE is the answer that might relieve some of those everyday stresses in your life. See you on the yoga mats!
