SPARTANS
ENGAGED IN SECOND SEASON OF PLAY
On
Saturday, August 22, Harborcreek Youth Services’ Spartans football team opened their second season of play. The HYS Spartans are a District 10
team of the PIAA and are playing at the Class A level. Click

game schedule.
Last
year’s players earned consistent positive feedback for their exemplary
sportsmanship, and Head Coach Rob Matz is eager to build on that success.
“This year,” said Coach Matz, “we’re hoping that all our players will stick with
the team all season. Last year, some of the kids got discouraged and dropped
out. We want the team to learn that nobody succeeds in life by quitting.”
Another goal is for this year’s team to be more competitive. “We’re looking for
our first win,” said Matz. “We’re working to build an offense and defense that
are fundamentally sound. Because our residents come and go with little notice,
we need to be able to interchange our players at any point.”
Four
of the Spartans’ five home games will be played
at Harbor Creek High School. Also, most of our home games will be played on
Thursday nights, which gives the team additional visibility in the community and
eliminates the possibility of conflicts with residents’ home passes.
The Spartans Boosters have prepared a program which is available at every game.
The program features photos of the coaches and players, our team’s schedule, and
advertisements from local businesses.
