FAHEY/FERKO MEMORIAL RUN/WALK

On Saturday, June 27, 2009, Harborcreek Youth Services hosted a 10K run, 5K run, and 5K walk in memory of Father James Fahey, a long-time agency administrator, and Rick Ferko, who dedicated his life to serving troubled youth. Thanks to everyone — sponsors, runners and walkers, and volunteers — who made this year's event a great success!

Next year's race will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010. For more information, please call Nancy Zawadzki at (814) 899-7664, Extension 401. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female racers in each event, in the following age groups: 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, 80 to 89, and 90+. The top male and female overall winners in all three events will receive trophies.

RACE ROUTES

10K Runners: The course starts and finishes on the Harborcreek Youth Services Main Campus at 5712 Iroquois Avenue in Harborcreek, Pennsylvania. A basic description of the course is that it starts on the northeast part of the campus on the dirt drive formerly known as Wilbur Avenue.

From this starting point the course runs basically north and then east to Villa Sites Road; north on Villa Sites Road to Irvine Drive to East Lake Road; west (left) on East Lake Road to Rockledge Drive. South on Rockledge Drive to Boyer Road; turn south (left). Proceed on Boyer Road to Creek Lane. Turn west (right) and proceed around the loop to Wildwood Road to Boyer Road. Turn right on Boyer Road and proceed south to the Penelec substation, which is the turnaround point.

From the turnaround point, runners will retrace their steps and turn into the HYS back entrance (a dirt road) and proceed directly to the finish line, which is near the northwest corner of the grass yard. The finish line is located near the northwest corner of the lawn near the north/south sidewalk leading to the campus buildings and adjacent to the basketball courts.

5K Runners/5K Walkers: The 5K course has the same start and finish as the 10K, and follows the same route until shortly after turning onto Rockledge Drive. The turnaround point on Rockledge Drive is 52 yards beyond the house at 5664 Rockledge Drive.
